Vincent Phan Sociology 101 March 16, 2010 What shaped me into the person I am in Contemporary America The things that made me into the person I am today were all contributed by my family, culture, peers, and values. Growing up in South Jersey has had an enormous effect on the person I am today. I say this because there were certain norms that had to be followed. All these norms we’re actually mores where if not followed you would be a social outcast. The town I lived in was a basically a little society. Another aspect that shaped my life would have to be my family. I say this because my parents are not originally from this country, so the instilled certain roles. An example of one of the roles was speaking a different language in school and at home. When my parents came to this country there were in culture shock where they had no idea how people interacted . My parents were able to settle down and learn the ways of the ropes of this new country. My parents thought that their home country was no where related with this new
