The best ways to prepare for the test are to: read your notes from the lectures and labs; read all the sections listed below, being careful to do as many of the examples as possible, partic- ularly those listed below; omit all the Technology Connection subsections; do all of the daily assigned exercises since test questions are often based on these; redo the quizzes; there are more review problems and a Chapter Test at the end of Chapters 1, 2 and 3. Some of the daily assigned exercises are too long for an in-class exam, but they do require understanding the important ideas we have covered and, so, give a good indication of the exam questions. B. Here is a list of the sections from our text and any other materials relevant to the first test. 1.1: Lines - slope-intercept equation, point-slope equation, Examples 6, 8, 10 1.2: Polynomials - parabola, quadratic formula, Examples 1 - 3, polynomial functions, degree, so- lutions or roots, Examples 6, 7 1.3: Rational and fractional powers - Examples 1, 3, absolute value function, Example 4, rational exponents, Examples 6 - 8 1.4: Trigonometric functions - radian and degree measure Examples 1 - 5, including table of sin, cos, tan of familiar angles, Examples 7, 8...
