1 Kruse Biology 232 Human Anatomy and Physiology II Laboratory Objectives Endocrine Exercise 27: Functional Anatomy of the Endocrine Glands We will be performing the following activities: Activity 1: Identifying the Endocrine Organs Activity 2: Examining the Microscopic Structure of Endocrine Glands The student should be able to recognize, identify and provide a concise functional definition for each of the following terms, structures and concepts and be able to apply them to appropriate specimens, models, charts, diagrams, prepared microscope slides and computer simulations as appropriate. Be certain to complete the appropriate Lab Objectives at the beginning of each Lab Exercise as well as the Review Sheet Exercises following the lab Introduction 1. Endocrine system 2. Compare to nervous system – structure and function 3. Hormones – Greek “to arouse” 4. Note the breakdown here to steroid and amino acid based is a bit simplified 5. Alter metabolism 6. Target organs with specific receptors
