11.0 ABSTRACTThecontrolofthemicrobialgrowthisveryimportantinthemedicalfield,pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, academic and food industries. A significantadvanced in various field have been made through this study of microbiology. The objectivesfor this experiment are to familiarize with the equipment and methods needed to preventcontamination and to conduct and explain the methods to control microbial growth. We havebeen explained about the standard operation procedure in handling the autoclave; one of theways to sterilize the sample. Each group was given a broth ofE. coliand the samples hadbeen sterilized with UV light and various type microbial agents which are ampicillin,penicillin G and Dettol. All the observation is captured and have been attached in this report.Based on the results shown, microbial agents are more effective in the high concentration.
22.0 INTRODUCTIONIn this experiment, the students need to familiarize with the equipment and methodsneeded to prevent contamination. Student also should be able to conduct to explain themethods to control the microbial growth. Generally, the sterilization is a process to kill oreliminate transmittable agent such as bacteria, viruses and fungi from the surface of the food,medication and biological culture medium. The sterilization can be carried out with differentmethod which are autoclave, ultraviolet ray (UV) and by using the microbial agents.Autoclave is a pressure chamber that used to sterilized pharmaceutical item, surgical andlaboratory equipment by subjecting them to high pressure saturated steam at 121 °C. For thismethod, the lab assistant demonstrated to us how to handle them properly and the studentshad been explained with the standard operation procedure (SOP).In antimicrobial effect analysis, students are given three types of solutions which areDettol, ampicillin, and penicillin G. Dilution is needed for these three techniques. For UVlight effect, the agar plates are intact under a UV lamp with three different conditions which
