2. Julie’s challenges and how to overcome them As much as Devereux meets most of the identified decision criteria, there are areas of improvement that must be addressed upon her acceptance of Nielson’s offer. First of all, the candidate’s past success may have resulted from the newness of the operation in her area in 2004. It is possible that the lack of competition or previous market penetration in the London region provided Devereux with the freedom to grow and establish a name for herself prior to other franchisees. The situation would be different once she assumes the role of the general manager, as she will be competing, or at least attempting to be at level, with general managers who are already experienced in their area of work. As well, her slight inferiority in managing equipment, advertisement, and miscellaneous costs should not be ignored. Placing her as the general manager and overlooking such weaknesses could have more serious consequences on the financial performance of the company, since she will now be responsible for hiring and training
