COMPARISON BETWEEN THE FBI AND THE CIA2The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was established in 1947 and developed from theWorld War II Office of Strategic Services. It is the key counterintelligence and foreignintelligence agency of the government of the U.S. The efforts of the counterintelligence andintelligence had been previously conducted by the FBI together with the military in which itunderwent a lack of coordination, duplication, and competition, which lasted until the 21stcentury. The FBI was established in 1908 during President Theodore Roosevelt’s error by SpecialAgents under Attorney General Charles Bonaparte. While agents from both sides report directlyto and often collaborate with the director of national intelligence, their overall scope and missionvary greatly.The fundamental differences between the two entities are based on who they areessentially extensions of, the authorities granted to them, and where the security threats emanatefrom (Breckinridge, 2019). Essentially, it can be explained by what the "I" in their namesrepresents. The CIA mainly focuses on collecting intelligence from across borders, with an onlynarrow domestic collection of intelligence while the FBI puts its main focus into criminalinvestigations.
