CHEM 312 Survey of Organic Chemistry Dr. Nanine Van Draanen Office Hours: TBA FOE 333 Phone 6-5658 email [email protected]Learning Objectives: This one-quarter survey of organic chemistry will introduce you to the structure, physical properties, nomenclature, and reactivity of the major classes of organic molecules. By the end of the quarter, you should be able to name a variety of organic molecules, predict their physical properties, and have some understanding of how and why they can be formed and can react. You should also understand the sources for most organic molecules. Text: Traditionally, this class is taught as a “watered-down” version of our year-long sequence: we cover almost all the topics, just more lightly (and far more quickly). This class will instead focus on practical organic chemistry: the materials of your lives, where they come from, how they’re made, why they act the way they do. It’s a lot
