Unformatted text preview: This PPT is based on findings of the Economic Mobility Project The Economic Mobility Project is a collaborative effort of The Pew Charitable Trusts and researchers from four leading policy institutes The American Enterprise Institute The Brookings Institution The Heritage Foundation The Urban Institute. These organizations do not necessarily agree on the solutions or policy prescriptions for action But each believes that economic mobility plays a central role in defining the American experience Andeach believes that more attention must be paid to understanding the status and health of the American Dream. A conservative think tank promoting public policy research and analysis based the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. The foundation took a leading role in the conservative movement during the presidency of Ronald Reagan whose policies drew significantly from Heritage's policy study Mandate for Leadership The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI) is a conservative think tank founded in 1943. Its stated mission is "to defend the principles and improve the institutions of American freedom and democratic capitalismlimited government, private enterprise, individual liberty and responsibility, vigilant and effective defense and foreign policies, political accountability, and open debate. AEI scholars are considered to be some of the leading architects of the second Bush Administration s public policy. The Brookings Institution is one of Washington's oldest and more liberal think tanks Its stated mission is to "provide innovative and practical recommendations that advance three broad goals: strengthen American democracy; foster the economic and social welfare, security and opportunity of all Americans; and secure a more open, safe, prosperous, and cooperative international system. Brookings jointly runs the Tax Policy Center with Urban Institute The Urban Institute is a nonpartisan organization which was established in 1968 as an independent organization to study the nations urban problems and to assess the Great Society initiatives which were embodied in more than 400 laws passed in the prior four years The Urban Institute was founded tobridge the gulf between the lonely scholar in search of truth and the decision maker in search of progress.
