In the early years of his career, came to make up to 25 movies, but always appearing tough girl or a Mexican Indian woman. Among the films that Moreno was at that time include CARAVAN TO THE SOUTH, SEVEN CITIES OF GOLD, The Lieutenant Wore SKIRTS and THE KING AND I. It was not until after winning the Oscar for WEST SIDE STORY that his talent was recognized within the industry. In 1962, Rita Moreno moved to London where he appeared in Hal Prince's production of She Loves Me, then returning to New York to star in Lorraine Hansberry's work in Sydney Brunstein The Swing Window. On Broadway, Moreno appeared alongside none other than Robert Shaw in Gantry, and next to Jimmy Coco in The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, as well as an award-winning role in The National Health. Moreno then turned to the lead role in The Ritz, job that gave him the Tony Award. Next came works like Wally's Café, and the female version of The Odd Couple.
