Outline for Final Paper/ Appendix A Introduction/Thesis: Many Americans today think owning a home is one of the most lucrative investments to make. Although renting provides a vast amount of flexibility, homeowners have a greater gain because not only will they reap the rewards of their investment and take a huge step toward financial strength and independence, homeowners also gain a sense of stability and more importantly, accomplish the “American dream.” I. A. Owning a home can help build and protect wealth, which, in a sense is the way to economic freedom. 1. Individuals are building equity when they own a home that is appreciating. 2. There are some great tax relief and incentives as a property holder. 3. When somebody rents a home, he/she is helping the owner build equity instead of building it for himself. B. Someone who owns a home has something to be proud of and a reason to protect and preserve it. 1. Homeownership allows citizens to have greater control and exercise more responsibility over their living environment. 2. A person gains a sense of pride and freedom; feeling him/her 'belongs' to an
