Epithelial cells classification Based on shape and size of the cell Squamous cells : small, flat, slightly active cells Cuboidal cells : slightly larger, moderately active cells (cube shaped) Columnar cells: much larger cells that are very active ( and shaped like a column) Epitherlial Tissue: classification: *simple epithelium: one layer of cells Type 1a: simple squamous: location: lines blood vessels, body cavities. Function: regulates diffusion across this layer. Type 1b: simple cuboidal: Location: lines ducts Function: provide moderate amount of secretion Epithelial Tissue: Classification (1c) Type 1c: simple columnar Location : lines the intestines Function: provide vast amounts of secretion and absorption Epithelial Tissue: Classification (1d) Type 1d: pseudostratified Aka respiratory epithelium Location: lines the respiratory tract Function: provide secretion and movement along the surface Epithelial Tissue: Classification (2a) Stratified epithelium Composed of more than 1 layer of cells
