Brooke Galietto August 28, 2011 Management 414 – Rob Parsons Case Analysis I do not think that Nasr should recommend Rob Parsons be promoted. It is critical that one analyzing this case recognizes Parson’s success and strides he made for Morgan Stanley. However, this is issue is more about the big picture. The industry recognizes Morgan Stanley for its commitment to team spirit and making decisions based on building consensus. If Nasr promoted Parsons to a Managing Director position his leadership style would be very different from that of Morgan Stanley in general. And his impact would trickle down and influence many different people ultimately shifting the culture from the one that is synonymous with Morgan Stanly. The heart of Morgan Stanley’s competitive advantage is the type of people that work there as stated by CEO Mack. That is what makes Morgan Stanley different from the other major investment banks. Each of the major banks has a personality and a style, by promoting Rob Parsons and therefore rewarding Parson’s style Nasr would be
