Alex Thompson Mr. Flood Visual Lit. Period 3 May 6, 2010 A Psychotic Masterpiece Two American classics, one made in 1963, the other in 1960, “The Haunting” and “Psycho” respectively. But which one is better? Or are they equal in their own respects? Well, unfortunately for “The Haunting”, most critics agree that “Psycho” is the top horror movie of the 20th century. Although both films deal with the human psyche and fear, “Psycho” is able to access a level of insanity that most films can only dream of. Through the mastering of a plot whose main character is dead most of the film and the intimacy between audience and camera, “Psycho” easily tops “The Haunting”. “Psycho” is an incredible horror film. "Psycho" is Alfred Hitchcock's masterful blend of artistic perfection and superb casual viewing. The gift of this brilliant terror tale is that you do not have to be aware of the subtle touches that make "Psycho" an artistic treasure.
