Olga Botea Biology 101 - Laboratory 3/25/2011 Lab 5: Physiology Experiment Abstract: The prior week, we had taken note of each group members age, approximate height, ap- proximate weight. We had also measured each group members pulse rate, recovery time, blood pressure, breaths per minute, tidal volume, vital capacity, and seconds of vital apnea. For this weeks laboratory we created our own experiment to test. Our formulated hypothesis was that both variables would increase at a similar rate when the same exercises were performed for longer periods of time. We tested this by measuring the pulse and tidal capacity of two individu- als in intervals of one, two, three, and four minutes. We found that the two variables increased at a similar rate in different individuals and eventually plateaued out at four minutes. Both tidal volume and pulse increased and comparing the two graphs, it is easy to see that the slopes follow a similar pattern throughout.
