A Red tide must be how the ocean bleeds. III. Recently in my biology class the professor gave a glimpse of what a red tide is and got me interested in the topic. IV. Today I am going to inform about 1) What causes Red tides 2) The negative effects of Red tides. Body I. Red tide is a natural phenomenon that colors the ocean red and can last for months. However according to an article by Fish and Wildlife Research Institute Red tides with various characteristics and colors have been documented worldwide for thousands of years. A. Red tides are caused by a population explosion of planktons. 1. Planktons are organisms that float near the top of the ocean and are about one thousandth of an inch long. 2. It is the pigments of the plankton that cause the coloring of the water. 3.
