Emily Leung Week Journal #4 February 24 th , 2011 TA: Peter Kaminski The lectures this week given by Pierre Rouzier were about the use of alcohol and drugs. It was interesting to find out that neurotransmitters are the known “messengers” that send signals such as serotonin. Receptor, another basic principle, is a part of the nervous system where the drugs bind. In the lecture, random facts were given for “why student’s drink?” and surprisingly 89% said that it “gives people something to do”. Then on Wednesday, Pierre Rouzier focused on the commonly heard drugs such as Oxycontin, Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroine, PCP, and more. All of these different drugs come from different classifications and can be classified as a stimulant, depressant, hallucinogen, and etc. The readings for this week were great additional reading on the topic of alcohol and drugs.
