Kenny O’Brien November 19, 2009 ECON 011 – Prof. Merchant Prof. Merchant, I have been looking online for some newspaper articles to use for my analysis, and I was wondering if you could comment on the appropriateness of the article I'm leaning toward. It's been kind of tough to find an article because most of the things I've seem look more "macro" than "micro". http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/16/technology/companies/16palm.html Is Palm's Comeback Losing Stream? ---- This article is about Palm, the company that invented the first "smartphone" in 2002. Palm has lost its way in the market of smartphones compared to Apple, Research in Motion, Samsung, Google, Microsoft and Nokia. I was hoping to analyze this article by categorizing Palm and smartphone market as a monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition, or perfect competition. I could talk about whether control or price, free entry/exit, the number of firms in the market, and whether I feel it has the chance to profit in the long-run.
