1 Chapter 1 Breakthrough Skills for the Global Workplace Define business communication and electronically mediated communication. Explain why it is important to understand this type of communication. Business communication: term used to describe all forms of speaking, listening, relating, writing, and responding in the work place Electronic mediated communication: Communication through electronic media such as telephone conversations, interviews, group meetings, email and internet communication. It is important to understand this type of communication because they possess the specific communication skills required in a business setting. They are also the most appropriate and effective skills in the workplace. Define each of the seven (7) components of the current model of business communication. Sender: Originator or source of a message Receiver: The person who is intended to receive the initial message Message : What is sad and done during the interaction Noise: All of the following below that contribute to the disruption and misinterpretation of the message. o
