Beginning Dance Composition Syllabus Dance 2500 Professor Joyce Morgenroth, 254-2744, jdm9 422 Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts Office hours by appointment Spring 2011 Goals:  Choreographing means exploring movement physically, emotionally, and  intellectually and crafting your movement material, images, and ideas into a form.  This course is designed to give you starting points for making dance studies. It  also will provide a forum for reactions and thoughts in response the work you and  your classmates produce each week. Weekly assignments give you the opportunity  to try out a variety of approaches to composing. At times, in-class improvisations  will introduce the current week's area of interest.  Periodic viewing of recorded  dances will give you a range of models to consider. Your role in this class is  twofold: to make dance studies and to constructively critique the work of your
