Unformatted text preview: proj1page 1 of 1 ECE 3331 Computer Project 1 Spring 2007 (due 2/6, 5pm) The equation x 2 (1 cos(x)cosh(x))  sin(x)sinh(x) = 0 is associated with the flexural vibrations of a missile subjected to a thrust T. The thrust is directly related to the parameter , and the positive roots of the equation determine the configuration and natural frequencies of oscillation of a missile in flight. This information is pertinent to the design of guidance and control systems for such missiles. You are to write a C program to determine the first few positive roots of the vibration equation using the method of false position (regula falsi). Obviously x=0 is a solution, but it is not of interest. Therefore begin with x=.001 and do a stepwise search until a sign change is found or until the search exceeds an upper limit. When a sign change is found, begin false position and continue until the relative difference between successive approximations is less than a specified tolerance or a maximum number of iterations has been done.
