General Course Outcomes: 1. Students will be able to identify how humans 'fit into' the global eco-system. 2. Students will exhibit comprehension of the global food/agricultural system. 3. Students will demonstrate effective use of the written and spoken word. 4. Students will demonstrate awareness of the locations of the countries in the world, world dietary classes and variation between cultures. 5. Students will know the crops used as food in the world where they are grown and what they taste like. 6. Students will demonstrate knowledge of how climate influences adaptation, growth and distribution of crop plants. 7. Students will exhibit the ability to acquire and use knowledge. 8. Students will demonstrate effective team building skills. II. Building Competencies: A. Lecture-Discussion Week 1-2 GMOs Specific outcomes: Demonstrate awareness of similarities between living organism. Exhibit a comprehension of the physical constraints on life. 1. Week 2-6 The Problem, People, The Solution Agriculture Specific outcomes: Demonstrate awareness of world population growth, composition and distribution. Exhibit a comprehension of where agriculture began and the origin of crop plants. Demonstrate comprehension of the location of dietary classes and their impact on hunger 1.
