Chem2070 Fall 2011 Homework #7: Due October 21 1. (a) Below are drawn two skeletons describing neutral molecules. Draw the molecule filling in lone pairs and/or multiple bonds where appropriate so that each of the illustrated atoms can achieve a closed shell configuration. (b) Predict the shapes of the following cations: XeF + 3 , SF + 3 , ClF + 2 , and CH + 3 2. (a) Write a plausible Lewis structure for NO 2 , and indicate whether the molecule is diamagnetic or paramagnetic. Two such NO 2 molecules can dimerize (join together) to form N 2 O 4 . Write a plausible Lewis structure for N 2 O 4 , and indicate whether the molecule is diamagnetic or paramagnetic (b) Describe the carbon-to-sulfur bond in H 2 CSF 4 ; i.e. is it most likely to be a single, double or triple bond. Also describe the geometry of the molecule (assuming S is the central atom). (c) A certain compound is composed of ONF units. Two proposed versions exist; the first where the O is the central atom, and the second where the N is the central atom. Draw Lewis dot structures for both.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
