In Chapter 7 (p. 264-269, and 275- 278) of your textbook, read about the following types of memory and for each write a description and provide an example. 1. Sensory Memory- memory or storage of sensory events such as sights, sound, and tastes; no processing or interpretation. Sensory memory last for a second or less. Ex- seeing letters or numbers in a split second and trying to remember them. a. Iconic memory- form of memory, often called photographic memory, which consists of especially vivid visual recollections of materials. b. Echoic memory- things you hear! Memory lasts a bit longer closer to 2 to 3 seconds; rarely as long s 20 seconds. Ex- hitting your hands on your desk and see if you still hear the sound after you stopped. 2. Short-term Memory- Memory stage that information is held in for about 10-20 seconds; information goes in (STM) first before it can be stored in long term memory.
