Prewar China and China in WWII Early 20 th century china o Revolution that turns China into a republic, nationalists government Chiang-Kai-Shek and the Kuomintang (KMT) o Leaders of the people that took over the country Pre-WWII civilest war Communist Party of China (CCP) vs. KMT o U.S. Military cannot decide who to support in the war, never fully supports communists in WWII but doesn’t totally support the other o U.S. offers suggestion that the enemies should come together and form a coalition government Mao agrees Shek does not Mao center of party by all means o Stalin is afraid of Mao But is waffling and supporting both sides Mao does see that Stalin cannot be trusted
