English 324 Spring 2011 How Genres Work in the Sciences Paper Peer Response Questions and Grading Criteria Use the following questions describing my criteria for grading this essay. Also, pose your own questions for your peer reviewers to address. Use these two sets of questions to give feedback to each other. Grading Criteria for the How Genres Work in the Sciences Paper: In this paper you are to demonstrate your understanding of what discourse theorists mean when they refer to genres and their social/rhetorical functions and how this can be applied to documents that you will be writing in your future profession. I have suggested the following pattern based on the springboard essay: 1) describe your future profession or professional situation and the writing that you will do; 2) explain what we mean when we talk about scientists using different genres for different purposes (cite theoretical article “Genre Repertoire: The Structuring of Communication in Organizations”); 3) transition from theory to the analytical response; and
