Orientation Week A benificial Experience 70 Entering university is a new chapter in a person s life. A first year university student is exposed to new experiences and challenges. Opportunities during orientation week make new challenges and experiences enjoyable. Firstly, a person gets to make friends in multiple faculties with campus mixers. Secondly, campus tours show a person where different services are found. Finally, faculty games allow a person to meet friends within their area of study. When opportunities are provided to make the transition from high school to university easier, it is benificial to first year undergraduate students. When campus wide mixers are prepared for students during orientation week, the students benifit by making new friends in other faculties. For example, Waterloo s orientation week in 2007 prepared an evening event, When Dinosaures Ruled the World. This event brought together students from the faculties of arts, engineering and math.
