Compute the headloss in feet of a 350 ft long, 1.5” pipe containing sludge (solids) with the
following conditions:
a)
Q = 25 gpm; 3% and 6% solids
b)
Q = 18 gpm; 9% and 1% solids
c)
How big must the pipe be to pump 45 gpm at 4 % solids and have a head loss equal to 14 ft?
Assuming the same length of pipe. Round your answer to the nearest diameter of
commercially available Schedule 40 PVC pipe. (Google is your friend here)
2)
Given the piping system shown below, calculate the Q (
in GPM
) conveyed between the two
tanks. Assume e (or k) = 0.3 mm, water temperature = 20
o
C.
Also, assume hydraulically rough
flow conditions. Account for all losses and
show all work
