Stormwater management system A system which is designed and constructed or implemented to control discharges which are necessitated by rainfall events , incorporating methods to collect, convey, store, absorb, inhibit, treat, use, or reuse water to prevent or reduce flooding, overdrainage, environmental degradation, and water pollution or otherwise affect the quantity and quality of discharges from the system (subsection 373.403(10), F.S.).

Rainfall Predominant factors for stormwater design § Rainfall Intensity § Rainfall Duration § Rainfall Frequency Definitions: Intensity – volume/duration or depth/duration [L/T]: in/hr, cm/hr Duration – how long a rainfall event (storm) lasts Frequency – how often a storm of given intensity and duration is expected to occur

Rainfall Hyetograph — a time distribution of rainfall Typically a plot of: § Rainfall intensity vs. time § Rainfall volume vs. time § Rainfall depth vs. time

Rainfall Incremental Hyetograph – plot of incremental rainfall, usually recorded in regular intervals (e.g. 5 minutes) Cumulative hyetograph – plot of cumulative rainfall over a specified period of time (duration)
