Alex Colome Journal 7 27 February 2011 I think that advertisements like Dove’s are a good starting point for changing the image of physical beauty in America, but I also think that there are some issues with that campaign. For one, I think it’s wrong to say, “real women have curves”… that implies that women who have a slight or slender body type aren’t “real” and is honestly just as bad as upholding all women to an impossibly thin ideal. I also think this campaign in a good starting point to changing the beauty ideal, but I think there are way too many examples of unrealistic body shapes, especially now that Photoshop is being used liberally in advertisements and even pictures in articles. I know that women certainly appreciate more average body types being shown in magazines. In magazine advertisements, both women and men are objectified. Some ads will focus on a certain part of the body, usually not the face, but the torso or legs. This happens more frequently in advertisements of women, but is present in pictures of men
