Ishmael becomes father of Arab race--social outcast, illegitim- ate child, inferior race AND In Moby dick he is chosen as the narrator (“call me Ismael”) who wonders and develops a relationship with minorities-a relationship of real friend- ship, equality, along the lines of what should be rather than what was the case With the one name Ishmael you have the relationship of equality and the relationship of outcast and patriarchal society
