Write a chemical reaction involving catalase in liver. What suffix (ending) do all enzymes have? What are the effects of temperature and pH on enzyme function? Explain. Give examples. If a solution has a pH of 2, and another solution has a pH of 10, which solution has more H+ ions? Which solution is acidic? Which one is basic? Calculate how many more or fewer H+ ions there are from one solution to the other. What are the effects of pH on catalase activity? What does an antioxidant do for the human body? Give some examples of antioxidants. Explain how they operate (be able to write reactions). Photosynthesis Given a completed chromatogram, be able to calculate the Rf value and relate that value to known pigments (listed). Which colors are absorbed by chlorophyll? What are the wavelengths of colors absorbed by chlorophyll? What colors are reflected by chlorophyll? What substance did you use to test the leaf for starch after boiling in water and alcohol? Describe what happened if the leaf had starch. What effect does covering a leaf have on starch production (photosynthesis)? Would the part of the leaf receiving no visible light be dead at the end of 24-hours?
