Cross dressing, same-sex sexual relations 1869, Dr. Karl Kertgeny o Current terminology used by a German doctor, Dr. Karl Kertgeny Coined the terms “homosexuality” and “heterosexuality” Both were considered sexual deviance—one was considered just as bad as the other, as opposed to “normal sexuality,” and idea for sex for procreation only with no pleasure involved. o Homosexuality People that had erotic relations/desires for people of the same sex Still tended to be a focus on violation of gender roles Manly women, or feminine men o Heterosexuality People who were having sex for fun and pleasure—sex-addicts Tiger Woods… LOL. Also included people who were engaging in sex revolving around fetishes. o There was a lot of controversy about the usage of these terms that wasn’t settled until the 1920s. Richard vonKrafft-Ebing o Interviewed many people, not just those he counseled, about their sexual behavior. o “Psychopathia Sexualis” Translated into English in 1892. Not only described all kinds of different behaviors, he included drawings of all kinds of sexual postions. He was the first one to use the terms “heterosexuality” and
