Aim of the experiment In this experiment we will explore how the properties of a lens are related to its shape, its index of refraction, and the index of refraction of the surrounding medium. Observations We observed that the light rays travelling in a converging manner in some instances, and also diverging in some cases. The observations are clearly stated in the paper attached. When the lens was surrounded by air, And the sections 1 was filled with air, 2 with air and 3 with water the rays converged with a greater focal length. When the Section 1 was filled with water, 2 with air and 3 with water the rays diverged and the focal length was very small. Questions 1. Under water conditions is a plano-convex lens converging ? Under what conditions is it diverging??? When the lens is surrounded by air and plano-convex is under water. When all sections are under water and section 1 is filled with air.
