Dates: MTR Time: 12:30 – 1:15pm Location: Course Description This is an introduction to Numerical Analysis and the first part of the Math104 Series. One of the foundations of Numerical Analysis is the approximation of functions. We will spend a good portion of this course on that topic and on its use to derive and to study effective computational methods for a wide variety of mathematical problems including integration, differentiation, data fitting, linear and nonlinear systems equations (104B), and ordinary and partial differential equations (104C). The main topics of study are the following, subject to modifications based on the actual pace of the course. 1. Introduction. 2. Function Approximation. 3. Polynomial Interpolation and Splines.
