Discussion sections/office hours willbe held at the following class times to discuss lectures which students are expected to watch outsideof these scheduled times.Dates:MTRTime:12:30 – 1:15pmLocation:Course DescriptionThis is an introduction to Numerical Analysis and the first part of the Math104 Series. One of thefoundations of Numerical Analysis is the approximation of functions. We will spend a good portionof this course on that topic and on its use to derive and to study effective computational methods fora wide variety of mathematical problems including integration, differentiation, data fitting, linearand nonlinear systems equations (104B), and ordinary and partial differential equations (104C).The main topics of study are the following, subject to modifications based on the actual pace ofthe course.1. Introduction.2. Function Approximation.3. Polynomial Interpolation and Splines.
