Outline for Speech #1 Name of Speaker: Ryan Hayes Item: Running Shoes General Purpose: To Inform Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience should be able to identify 3 ways running has changed my values. Organizational Pattern: Chronological Introduction I. Attention getter: Last year I entered the New York City Marathon. The race started and I was in last. The guy second to last was making fun of me. He said, "H ow does it feel to be last? " I was like: " Do you want to know? " and I dropped out. II. Thesis/Subject: The best way to learn is from a bad performance III. Relevance to audience/Reason audience should listen: The audience needs to understand that many of the things you learn to get a job are done through sports or clubs. IV. Speaker Credibility: Well, I am talking about myself…no one at Miami knows me better than me V. Preview (Main Ideas/Points): With these shoes, I learned the values of patience, focus, and leadership. Transition: With these points in mind, the first and hardest value I learned was patience.
