Outline for Speech #3 Persuasive Speech Name of Speaker: Ryan Hayes Topic: Edun Live: Great Idea for the Sake of Jobs in Africa General Purpose: To Persuade Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, the audience should be motivated to get involved with Edun on campus, and/or support their cause by buying their clothing online. [ They should also know the reasons how this socially conscious clothing company benefits poor regions like Africa. ]* * Your specific purpose for a persuasive speech can just encompass the actions you want your audience to take. For example: at the end of my speech, the audience should get involved with Edun on campus and/or buy Edun clothing. Visual Aid(s): PowerPoint, Tee-shirt that I purchased from the company’s website Organizational Pattern: Monroe’s Motivated Sequence Introduction I. Attention Getter: ATTENTION When you donate money, food, or clothing to organizations that benefit the poor, particularly in Africa, do you think this is benefitting these people in the long run? We know that sections of Africa like Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania are in extremely terrible shape, but have you ever considered that the food and clothes coming from our donations actually hurt Africans even more? That is why instead of donating clothes and food, you should purchase clothing from EDUN. II. Thesis/Subject: EDUN addresses the real problems, which is (are) unemployment and an increase of global trade in Africa. III. Relevance to Audience/Reason audience should listen: EDUN was founded by Bono, the singer of U2, EDUN clothes are stylish and easy to purchase. *Make sure you connect this to your audience; for example, mentioning that college students in general, or the people in this room specifically, are all stylish people.
