August 31, 2011 Case Analysis 1 A Centralized Structure Transforms Home Depot When an organization utilizes the function of centralization and the solutions that are associated with it good things can occur. “The communication and coordination problems of a tall company make a manager’s job one of monitoring and supervising, causing an organization to lose sight of its goals “ (Jones, 2010) In this case analysis I will discuss the ways that decentralizing and centralizing authority helped Home Depot and the choices that are made whether to centralize or decentralize over time. First I will discuss in what ways decentralizing and centralizing authority can make performance levels better in organizations like Home Depot. In using the decentralization of authority Home Depot has been able to expand their organization at an incredible rate. From 1979-2001 Home Depot was able to double their stores every four years.
