The axle itself has bearings which are not shown on the picture. An ideal (massless) inextensible strap over the disk supports a mass m at one of its ends and is re- strained at the other end by a linear spring with constant K . The disk does not slip relative to the strap. The downward displacement x ( t ) of the mass m is measured from from its assembled equilibrium point where the system rests under the action of gravity and the restraining spring force....
