Patrick Hill Mr. Tobin Journalism 101 H 29 March 2010 The Last Abortion Clinic Frontline produced “The Last Abortion Clinic” back on November 8, 2005 which dealt with the ongoing war on abortion rights. The documentary was based on the Casey v Planned Parenthood of Pennsylvania which allowed abortions but gave states greater control over the restrictions on abortion. Mississippi is one of the states that took full advantage of this case and is the setting for the documentary. In Mississippi, there is a complex situation for abortion rights which is argued by Pro-Life and Pro-Choice supporters in the documentary. Mississippi’s state governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general were all pro-life and helped impose “trap” laws which make it hard for women to receive abortions and holds abortion clinics to strict laws. Women in Mississippi have problems with receiving abortions because there is only one abortion clinic left. 60% of women seeking abortions in Mississippi must travel out of the state to receive
