SPANISH ACCENT MARKS Things to remember: Spanish accents are ACUTE (i.e. they lean to the RIGHT) When an accent falls on a Capital Letter, the accent is NOT optional. You must write it just as you would on a lower case letter. No hand-written accent marks will be permitted on typed assignments, as per departmental policy. Copy and paste: You may choose to simply copy these accented and special characters and paste them into your document: ¿ ? ¡ ! á é í ó ú Á É Í Ó Ú ñ Ñ ü Ü 1) Easiest method for PCs, aside from pasting: Vowels with accents: Control button and apostrophe key ( ), then letter. CTRL + apostrophe / release / “a” = á CTRL + apostrophe / release / “A”= Á ……etc…. Vowels with dieresis: CTRL + SHIFT + colon key ( : ), then U or u. CTRL + SHIFT + colon key / release / “u” = ü Letters Ñ and ñ : CTRL + SHIFT+ “~” (to left of ‘1’ key), then N or n CTRL + SHIFT + “~” / release / “N” = Ñ
