Hunter Heck ENG 111 DG Pat LaFleur 1 November 2010 Why Should the Ground Zero Mosque be Built? The tragic event occurring on 9/11/01 has marked its print on American history. As a result, many American’s views on the Muslim people have been forever changed. A few months ago a Muslim man by the name of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf declared that he plans to build a Muslim community center for interfaith tolerance near the Ground Zero Site in New York City. Many Americans find this inappropriate when taking the 9/11 attacks into consideration. They argue that building a Muslim Mosque right where a group of Muslims killed many Americans is disrespectful to the victims and their families. I understand where these people are coming from, but they are looking at this idea the wrong way. The Ground Zero Mosque is a sign of the freedom of religion and justice, and will restore peace between Americans and Muslims. Our role as Americans includes promoting peace and freedom, hence the words, the land
