Establish the purpose of the free write, creating a direction and a bare bones structure would increase the effectiveness “just write” not a strong method Conscious of how people have been formed as writers by previous professors Reading aloud free write claims voice, lose the free form benefit when subconsciously knowing that it must be spoken On the other hand, a need for self reflection in the free write 2/1/11 Dunn reading: -variety strategies need to be implemented in the classroom in order to appeal to students of all learning styles Techniques: create charts and graphs of a draft, “think about how I think” Sketching metaphors: take an idea and sketch a metaphorical situation to find different ways to present an idea 2/8/11 Discourse communities group of people who differ in: - the vocabulary they use to describe the world - - the linguistic style and genres they prefer - - the kinds of “evidence” they value - - the questions/issues they find relevant
