Page 1 of 4 Instructions for using the Nios II 7.1 Instruction Set Simulator (ISS) Go to http://coen.boisestate.edu/smloo/ece332spring2008/lecturenotes.htm to download the Nios II IDE simulation files ( filename is sim.zip ). Unzip to D drive (it has to be a folder or path without spaces, otherwise this won’t work!). N2SIM.sof is for programming the Altera DE2 board. This won’t be needed unless hardware debugging is the objective. For this writeup, N2SIM.ptf (example shows nios.ptf) is the only necessary file. Double click on Nios II 7.1 IDE ( ) on the desktop. If the icon is not available, you can access Nios II 7.1 IDE from Start All Programs Altera Nios II EDS 7.1 Nios II 7.1 IDE. NO HARDWARE is required for this. The following will appear. Now, start a new project. This project can be targeted to hardware (DE2), HDL simulation, or ISS simulation. The goal for this write-up is ISS simulation.
