10/10 Mediated Communication Notes Movie: The Joneses WOM (Word of Mouth) - Informal, non-commercial, oral, person to person communication about a brand, a product, or a service between two or more consumers. - Product information transmitted by individuals to individuals Strategic Uses - Using consumer communication as a means of multiplying a brand’s popularity through customers spreading the brand name of a product or name of a company. - Top down approach when the company tries to make a solution of the product. The company puts in people (opinion leaders). Others see how this guy is using the product and then they go and buy it. - Sometimes companies don’t even pay commission to people, just give others the product Offline: word of mouth, WOM, Offline: WOM, Traditional: WOM, Face to Face, Grass roots marketing Online: word of mouse, eWOM, Online WOM, Internet WOM, Viral Marketing, Buzz Marketing, Internet Marketing, Consumer to Consumer.
