The Business Sense of Big Lots, Home Depot, and Gulf Shore Cooling The first company that I selected was the closeout store, “Big Lots”. I selected Big Lots because it is very easy for me to access information on Big Lots, because my husband is currently holding a management position with the company. I had the privilege of interviewing him and another employee. As far as Big Lots operations, I found that Big Lots has many processes put into place, or the lack of, that obviously benefit them, and not their employees or customers. I say this because I found that Big Lots have only one person running their furniture department. I found that this one person is responsible for helping the customers, unloading the trucks when they deliver, paperwork, and keeping the department organized and clean too. I also found that Big Lots does not have a theft prevention system put into place and that they lose thousands of dollars in merchandise every year due to shoplifting. I also found that each employee is given forty set fours per week, and they are not allowed over time. I notice that the managers do not seem to notice that there are any issues, however some day they may, once the
