Data Validation Excel Errors Excel will show an error preceded by a # sign o #DIV/0! o #N/A o #NAME? o #NULL! o #NUM! o #REF! o #VALUE! When an error is present, a small green triangle will appear in the top left corner of a cell (note that Excel may view a calculation as an error, even if an error message is not shown) o Example: if one cell within a column has a different formula than the rest of the column, Excel will view this cell as an error You can click on the Error Checking Options button (next to the cell containing the error) to view different options to address the error You can view/modify the types of errors that Excel will catch by going to Excel Options o File – Excel Options – Formulas Auditing Formulas and Error-Handling Excel provides several options to identify errors o Evaluate Formula Formulas – Formula Auditing – Evaluate Formula Allows each portion of a formula to be separately calculated o Trace Precedents/Trace Dependents Formulas – Formula Auditing – Trace Precedents OR Trace Dependents
