Pivot Tables (Day 2) U.S. Census Bureau Example Layout o Report Filters: None o Row Labels: STATE o Column Labels: None o Values: POP010210 (2010 Population), POP010200 (2000 Population) Filters o Row Labels: Filter out blank row labels Field Settings o 2010 Population (sum) o 2000 Population (sum) Add a calculated field o Provide a name for the calculated field o Enter the formula as follows: = (POP010210 -POP010200)/POP010200 o This will calculate the percentage change in population Calculated fields must be in the value area o Once created, the calculated field will appear in the field list o You can use functions, but cannot reference cells/ranges in worksheets – you have to use only fields within the field list Cautions about using calculated fields o Calculated fields are based on the sum of the underlying data for fields, rather than on the individual items o Example: Create a new calculated field to find the number of females for each
