Perceptions… Directions : In groups , come up with examples of how the following phenomena could influence a communication situation ; if possible, use your own experiences or events in the news. Be specific. 1. perceptual constancy- getting hit by a pitch makes one more timid in the batter’s box, which is communicated to the pitcher in body language. Seeing black repairman with tattoos (because of preconceived biases) caused someone to not want to let him in the house and look for an excuse to keep him out. (also an example of stereotyping based son similarity) Embarrassing oneself in front of a large audience may lead to fear of speaking to a large group Being involved in a car accident (and therefore being afraid of another) causes someone to communicate differently as a passenger; ‘braking’ and holding on to clothes hanger in car. Having a close encounter with a Great Dane causes someone to run away from dogs. Failing a class and retaking it with the same instructor causes someone to pay
