Syllabus for Introduction to Marketing Course : Introduction to Marketing (01:630:301). Tuesdays, 6:40-9:30pm Lucy Stone Hall (Livingston Campus), Room B112. Kerin, Steven W. Hartley, and William Rudelius. Published by McGraw-Hill Irwin. ISBN# 978-0-07-352993-6. Additional required readings will be posted under the “resources” section of the Sakai site. Course Goals : The primary goal of this course is to provide every student with an understanding of and hands-on experience in the concepts and methods underlying basic work in marketing. This includes understanding and applying basic analytical methodologies, use of basic metrics, and creative marketing techniques. Through real examples from business and simplified hypothetical examples students will gain an understanding of which basic procedures and methodologies are appropriate for different types of products, situations, and budgets. This course also aims to help students see that marketing is an exciting, interesting field that uses data to drive best practices. Achieving the Course Goals : To achieve the course goals we will explore examples in class, discuss relevant methodologies, work through analyses together, and do projects to reinforce the newly acquired skills and concepts. We will also work in groups to discuss issues in marketing, develop ideas for marketing strategies, and discuss how marketing relates to current events and the broader community. Exams:
