Built up from a fringe movement to a massive power Built upon economic depression, impulse to regain  German Glory September 1935:  the Nuremberg Laws. Forced seclusion of the Jews by law Racial Laws April 1936:  Arab Higher Committee and the Great Arab Rebellion Middle East November 1938:  Kristallnact all over Germany Term given to a single night of horror German stimulated mass of people burned down synagogues all over  Germany July 1938:  The McDonald White Paper:  due to increased arrival of Jewish refugees  from occupied Europe, the British rushed to calm the Arabs by limiting immigration to  75,000 for 5 years (1940-44) and limitations on land purchasing.  Further immigration  required Arab consent. 1) limited immigration 2) limited land purchasing In response to the 5 th  Alleia Another reactionary play by the British government o Attempts to juggle the Jewish and Arab population in their territory Administer their mandate without too many problems – retrieve  their investments from the first world war and then go home. Did not anticipate ‘discontent, riots, violence’ – reacted to  appease the party in discontent. Both limited the Jewish population and eliminated it.
